Kansai's first Western-style theater with a history of 100 years
The Osaka Shochikuza was built and opened in May 1923 as the first full-fledged Western-style theater in the Kansai region in Dotonbori, a theatrical district that has existed since the Edo period. After World War II, the theater served as a screening hall for Western and Japanese films, and since the Heisei era has mainly presented Kabuki, contemporary plays, comedy performances, musicals, concerts and other performances. Since the Heisei era, it has mainly presented kabuki, contemporary plays, comedy performances, musicals, concerts, etc. Even today, as it celebrates its 100th anniversary in May 2023, it continues to present a rich and varied content throughout the year to people in Japan and abroad.
