Why is this event so significant?

Thanks to the progress in vaccine distribution, the outlook is starting to look bright for the tourism industry that has been hit so hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. In particular, while international travel continues to be difficult, the industry expects renewed discovery in the appeal of domestic travel and an increase in demand.

Additionally, because of the pandemic, the behaviors and attitudes of travelers has grown even more diverse and sophisticated. This has generated a need for the creation of new services born from cross-industry collaboration, as well as the development of sustainable tourism to be able to meet the needs of travelers.

With World Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai on the horizon, development is underway for Japan to become a new global gateway. This means that Osaka, the host city for Expo 2025, will become a showcase to appeal Japanese travel and tourism and will serve as a hub for sending travelers across all of Japan.

The Osaka Convention & Tourism Bureau as well as government, economic, and tourism bodies from across Osaka and the Kansai Region, are holding the Japan Tourism Showcase in Osaka, Kansai with high expectations for this to be a catalyst in the recovery of travel. As the name indicates, the event's success will come from the collective power of all of Osaka and the Kansai region, and we are making this an annual event to contribute to the development of the tourism industry.

What makes this showcase so appealing?

Local governments and destination marketing organizations (DMOs) across Japan are gathering in one place. For visitors, this is an unprecedented chance to discover new and exciting destinations. For everyone involved in the tourism industry, this is a chance to engage in new business opportunities with industry players who are innovating and revitalizing the field.

In addition to travel companies, transportation providers, accommodations, tourism facilities, and amusement parks, we are gathering a wide range of exhibitors representing industries that are newly engaged in the travel industry, such as digital transformation (DX) and infectious disease prevention service providers. This is a trade fair proposing a new style of travel amid the industry’s latest trends and the new normal.

Event Structure

Held over the course of three days, the event’s first day (Friday, March 25) is for business attendees, listed under “Visitor ①” in the chart above. On this BtoB day, in order to facilitate fruitful meetings and discussions between exhibitors and attendees, in addition to the industry-standard travel agencies, we are also gathering industry buyers from corporate attendees searching for incentive or “workation” travel destinations, to school and educational personnel looking for new educational travel destinations across Japan.

In addition, to address the growing demand for travel in anticipation of the overcoming of the pandemic, we are promoting the event as a chance to gather the latest info on travel destinations from all corners of the country, which will likely draw many visitors here to Osaka and Kansai. Our goal is for the event to be a place for tourism service providers from across Japan to directly appeal their services to consumers.

The event’s website will feature a fully-functional search system, and will even have two-way communication between buyers and sellers, a matching system, chat, and online meeting functionality, all maximizing the potential in exhibiting at the event. The online environment gives exhibitors business opportunities with not just on-site attendees, but even online buyers in Japan and overseas.
